06.30.07 - stumpless
Our
baby is now stumpless. Jackson's cord stump finally came off today. It was
hanging on by a thread, so I took some baby scissors and just snipped it off.
Not sure if I should have done that or not, but it was totally grossing me out
just hanging on there. Now diaper changes and baths will be much, much easier!
06.29.07 - if it's not one thing, it's another
Diaper
rash is not a fun thing. Poor little Jackson's bum has been pretty red the last
couple of days. It looks a lot better now though, but I think it's still
bothering him somewhat. That Boudreaux's Butt Paste stuff is magical. We figured
out a trick to get Jackson to sleep better through the night...we've started
putting his Boppy pillow in the bassinet at night and he's been sleeping in
that. The last two nights he's slept tons better than the previous two weeks. I
think it's because he's a cuddler and likes that feeling of being held...which
obviously we can't hold him all night long, so the pillow is kind of giving him
the feeling that he is being held all night. He's also sleeping on my chest a
lot, but that's not an ideal situation either. But, the nights are getting
better little by little, so that's a plus - more sleep for us makes it a lot
easier to care for him during the day! Caffeine helps with that too, haha.
06.25.07 - Eventful weekend
Jackson
had a jam-packed weekend. On Saturday, we went shopping at Costco and to the
grocery store. He slept through it all, so he really had no idea whatsoever
where he was. On Sunday, we went to our annual church picnic where everyone
oohed and aahed over how cute he is. After the picnic, we went over to my
parents' house for the rest of the day. Jackson and Alex got to meet for the
first time. Alex was pretty jealous and a tad scared I think, especially when
the baby cried. He kind of kept his distance. Adam and I snuck upstairs for a
nap in the afternoon, which was lovely. Poor Jackson though...if only we had
known that Grandpa would take him out to let him "drive" the Porsche, I'm not
sure if we would have snuck away for that nap after all, haha. Adam went out for
about four hours this afternoon, so it was the first time Jackson and I have
been by ourselves. I got a taste of what life will be like for a while...doing
laundry with a baby in the other arm is difficult, but I got it done. He was
really good for me though. It's funny because as soon as Adam got home was when
he started his fussy time. I'm not sure what we'll be up to tomorrow. Perhaps a
mall outing? We need to go to Ritz to get pictures printed so I can start
working on his photo albums.
06.22.07 - gallery is up!
The
gallery is now up and running. I'm sure it will be updated frequently, so keep
checking back. Jackson slept really well last night. We went to bed around 11:00
and he slept until his 2:00 feeding and then went right back to sleep until
5:00. After that feeding he was up for a while, but then went back to sleep and
we all three slept in until almost noon! It felt so wonderful to get that much
sleep. He had another bath today. Boy, does he hate those! He loooooves having
his hair washed though, oddly enough. Jackie came over for a few hours this
afternoon and Bryon and Erin are coming to visit after dinner this evening. We
plan on taking Jackson out to the grocery store on Saturday and perhaps Costco
and then on Sunday we have a church picnic we want to try to make. Church was
pretty empty last week, so we really hope he'll get to meet everyone this
Sunday. The youth group sent us flowers the other day, which was a really nice
surprise. I know a lot of the youth are dying to meet him, so hopefully he'll be
on his best behavior this weekend. His eye is looking tons better by the way.
There's still just a tad bit of discharge, but it's not swollen or anything
anymore and doesn't seem to be bothering him.
06.20.07 - 7 pounds!
Our
little one is getting so big already! We had a pediatrician appointment today
and Jackson weighed 7 pounds even and measured 19 & 3/4 inches long. So, the
formula is definitely doing the trick. Everything checked out good except that
his left tear duct is clogged, so we have to put some ointment on that eye four
times a day until it's healed. He's got some pretty nasty gunk around that
eye...makes me want to vomit when I'm cleaning it out. I'm much better with the
poopy diapers and the spit-up than the gunky eye. We don't have to go back until
August, when he'll be two months old...and then it's time for shots, eek! After
the appointment today, we went to Target to buy some more diapers. We have tons
and tons, but didn't realize that they are all a size or two too big for him, so
we needed more of the newborn size. Praise the Lord for coupons - diapers are
freaking expensive! We ran into a couple of people we knew while at Target, so
it was fun showing him off. Oh, and we also got to show him off at the pharmacy
when we picked up his eye medicine. We had been their best customers for the
last nine months with all the nausea medicine we had to get there, so it was
nice going in there with the actual baby this time!
06.18.07 - First blog
Jackson
Boyce Stein was born on June 10th, 2007 at 7:23 a.m. I had been keeping a
previous blog about my pregnancy with him, which I'm no longer going to be
updating. Now, everything will be on his site here. Yes, I know it's silly for a
baby to have his own website, but humor me :). I'm still working on getting the
gallery up, so there's nothing there yet. Soon hopefully! I've been a little
preoccupied, obviously. Jackson is a good little boy, but he does have his days
and nights confused, so it has been pretty challenging at times for us
first-time parents. He's a good eater - with the bottle. We tried nursing and he
did that exclusively for four days, but once my milk came in, he just didn't
want to have anything to do with that anymore and it was becoming much too
challenging to get him to eat. We tried a bottle that evening and he was so
satisfied. It's a bit disappointing that the nursing thing didn't work out, but
as long as he's getting all the nutrients he needs, I know it'll be okay with
the bottle. We've had a lot of firsts in the last week - first (and second)
bath, first walk outside in the stroller, first church service, first
pediatrician visit, etc. It's been really exciting and Adam and I can't wait for
the many more firsts to come. Okay, enough rambling from me for now. Time to get
back to my baby!
